They played with her toys
the past; Today her body
Game turned into shame
She silenced herself
Amidst nightmares, fear and dread
Who could she look upto
Not bro, not father
Family was safe no more
She now played with fate
She silenced herself
Amidst nightmares, fear and dread
Who could she look upto
Not bro, not father
Family was safe no more
She now played with fate

Girl abuse is not limited to a bunch of strangers misbehaving with one. As i've come to read, hear and notice, these things happen in a family too. Fathers, brothers, uncles etc have been accused of sexually exploiting the girls of the family. And the girl is forced to shut up, lest her family comes to shame. What the society doesn't let a girl realize is that the shame is on the heartless people who commit this blunder and not on the female it's being subjected to!

I have written my post with a girl's point of view. But the opposite prevails too. Boys are also exploited by women, just that it's usually not very much talked about. One reason being, in extreme cases, the blunder shows in a girl in the form of pregnancy, where as in a boy it doesn't! The mental trauma is equally experienced by both the genders though and it's sad. Watch the movie PRECIOUS.. This movie portrays the trauma faced by a 16 year old. She has been impregnated twice by her father, and suffers long-term physical, sexual, and mental abuse from her unemployed mother.
This Haiku is written for The Heights of Haiku - April 2012. The prompt for today is 'PLAY'.
